Starting at St Mary’s in Shrawley just a short walk from the Curradine Barns, everything was planned to perfection for a totally fab wedding.

I have to say the weather was perfect for portraits, I love the soft light we get in the winter in the UK.

I always love photographing a full day, the complete story of the day is always worth telling …..

Congratulations to Lucy and James, I wish them a lifetime of Joy, Love and Laughter and all in abundance.

Sarah and Andy chose the fab St Chad’s on the gravel in Wishaw for their intimate wedding service then of to Moxhull for a wedding breakfast in the dinning room.

It was a huge treat to photograph at St Chad’s as If memory serves I have only been once before, I have to say that the wind was bitting that day but the light was beautiful to make up for it : )

Just like wedding venues, wedding fashion, and even invitations, wedding cakes move in trends throughout the years. Certain types of cakes – in terms of flavour, design, etc. – are more popular at different times than others, and if you are planning a wedding in the near future it might be worth knowing a few current trends in wedding cakes! After all, the cake is a surprisingly important aspect of any wedding, both because it looks awesome the reception, and also because your guests will appreciate a nice dessert. With that in mind, here are a few of the hottest recent trends in wedding cakes.

Simpler Designs

Many people have an image of wedding cakes as extremely ornate and intricate. Indeed, it is not uncommon for couples or wedding planners to think of the wedding cake more in terms of the decorative effect it will provide than its actual function as a dessert. However, there seems to be a definite trend toward simpler designs when it comes to icing and decoration. Not only does this often make your cake a bit cheaper, but it can also make a cake easier to find! For example, instead of going to a specialized wedding cake bakery, you may be able to pick up a simpler cake somewhere like M&S. Simplifying this process can be very convenient while planning a wedding.

Real Flowers

Along with simpler design ideas, more and more couples are electing to use real flowers and flower petals as ornaments on wedding cakes. This may sound intricate, but compared to artificial blossoms and frosting flowers it’s actually very simple! Carefully arranged patterns of flowers on wedding cakes can provide you with a classy sort of decoration that is easier to manage and still lovely to look at. This is a particularly good idea if there are already floral themes in the bride’s or bridesmaids’ dresses.

Focus On Flavour

Whats the point of a wedding cake if it doesnt taste great !!!! If you haven’t attended many weddings before, it may surprise you to know that wedding cakes are often not the most delicious of desserts. Often, so much emphasis is put on decoration that the flavour becomes less important. That does seam to be turning around and there seems to be increased use of strong dessert flavours such as real fruit, or chocolate, in wedding cakes. It is perfectly possible to have a wedding cake that is both delicious and beautiful to look at, but you may have to emphasize this desire as you go about choosing a cake. However, with enough taste testing in advance, you should be able to guarantee a great dessert! Of course carrot cake is the best if you ask David :0)

Liza and Ben chose the week before Christmas for there Moxhull Hall wedding,  the weather wasn’t really on our side but everyone had a fabulous day inside Moxhull’s hall.. Liza looked stunning in her wedding gown the venue was great and the best man didn’t embarrass Ben too much in his speech… a perfect wedding : )

Congratulations!!!  to Liza & Ben on a beautiful wedding… thank you for letting me be a small part in your wedding story, I wish you a life time of love and happiness in each others arms.

I grew up by Wolverhampton’s East park and today after the Easter service in St Bart’s church we took the kids for a walk around my old stomping ground…. It was great fun and brought back a load of old memories.

I took the camera along today as I have been roundly chastised by a friend and by Sally for not taking enough photo’s of my own children – I promise to take more photo’s this year !!!

St Teresa and the Sacred heart was very welcoming and I really enjoyed having a lovely bright church to photograph in, thank you.

Following the service we headed over to Moxhull Hall, where we were greeted by the fantastic Tony… Moxhull looked great in the run up to Christmas and Lucy and Robert had made it there own with some lovely touches.

Congratulations to you both on a beautiful wedding, I’m just sorry It took me longer than usual to share the photos on my blog.

Pete and Charlie’s wedding was always going to be brilliant to photograph, they are such a wonderful couple and I love photographing Greek weddings !!

The whole day was great fun to photograph, Especially the dancing…. I almost got taken out a couple of times.

It was also a pleasure to see Andy from Zeus films again.

The service was held at St Andrews in Birmingham and then on to the lovely Moxhull Hall who as always did an amazing job of looking after everyone on the day, I must admit I enjoyed watching Andreas the usually cool and calm owner of Moxhull hall looking a little bit nervous before his best man speech…. in the end he delivered it brilliantly to much applause so I think he must have been having us on!

Congratulations to Charlie and Pete on a perfect wedding… the beginning of a life time of love and happiness together.

It was really hard to narrow the photos down to put on the blog, but I’ve always been useless at that, that’s why my clients often get way too many photos…

St Peters in Harbourne is a lovely church to photograph in and Curradine Barns is I’m sure everyone knows one of my favourite wedding venues and was perfect as always!

In a day packed with happiness and emotion I should point out how wonderful Caroline’s song to Roy was, it was a beautiful, perfect moment… the kind of thing that makes me call my wife the moment I finish working to tell her that I love her.

Thanks to Caroline and Rory for letting me photograph your lovely wedding.

It was great to see them in the summer sun as it was quite a bit colder when we did the engagement photo shoot!!

St Johns was great church to photograph in and very friendly to wedding photographers, thanks guys! and Moxhull preoved once again why it is one of the best wedding venues in the country with fabulous food and generous hospitality. The warm oranges and green colour scheme the chose  really looked fabulous all day especially the bridesmaids dresses .

I really enjoyed doing some old school ‘fun photos’ with the throwing of the top hats!! even if one did get me on the way down ; )
